1959 Porsche 356 Convertible D

This Convertible D (#85741) is the 240th produced by coachbuilder Drauz out of a total production of 1331 vehicles in 1959. This D retains it's original factory numbers-matching super engine and gear box. The doors, hood and engine lid are each factory stamped with the last digits of the car's VIN. The D is finished in it's factory combination of silver over a red interior.

According to the Kardex on hand, this car was delivered new to Harald McDermott, a U.S. Marine Corp serviceman stationed in Germany. Mr. McDermott took delivery of his new Convertible D from the Porsche dealer Auto-Rossel in Weisbaden.

Little is known of the history of the car after it arrived in the United States. The prior owner resided in Colorado, where a restoration of the Convertible D was started. As a result of the prior owner's death, all previous records were lost.

Since my purchase, the engine was removed and inspected. All hardware was replated, tin was repainted, and a new big bore kit was installed. The interior was replaced with the correct materials and hardware, including the top. The brakes have been adjusted, lights and switches inspected, 5 correctly dated wheels sourced and painted, and new Pirelli tires installed. The car appears to have been painted within the last several years to a high level.

This Convertible D is priced below market for a numbers-matching super at $275,000.
